Celebrating and creating pottery!
I believe clay has its own memory and with that in mind, I rarely set out to make anything in particular. I sit down and just let my breath carry away the worry and the clay starts to take shape.
The process of manipulating the clay into shape eliminates all other thoughts for those moments. When I discovered throwing, I marveled in the spinning of the wheel while I watched the transformation. I believe, as an artist, the greatest gift we can share is our time and talents. In keeping true to how I learned through community centers, I share my time and talents in my community in hope of helping others discover art.
With clay, as in life, there is not a wrong way and we can always either fix it, find alternative uses for it or recycle it completely which allows me the freedom to make mistakes and find beauty in each moment or piece.

My name is Shelly Goodmanson. I began my career in marketing & fundraising, and hold a Bachelors in Sociology and a Masters in Marketing. I discovered pottery in 1998 at a small community art center. The center was filled with inspiring people with a passion for art and sharing art to build a community. Pottery became a therapeutic pastime for me as well as a connection to creative individuals. Several moves later, I am a stay at home mom and have a home based studio where I create random and amazing things. Each piece is unique to itself, just as each of us are. Life and creating pottery is a balance of passion, dreams and reality.

I'm a wildly ambitious, highly optimistic artist who likes to create unique pieces.I describe my work as handmade fun and functional. I very rarely make duplicates that are exact, but I will make them similar. I love the mess and freedom of clay. My mind may have a million things flying through it but must quickly quiet in order to find focus in the clay, the wheel and the feeling of creating something. I use Laguna BMix clay which is high fired to cone 5 in one of my electric studio kilns. I am happy using commercial glazes. My work is regularly carried at amazing local shops. I can also be found at several art markets and host studio open houses.
I learned everything I know in a community studio setting in several states. My approach to pottery and all art is that it should be easily accessible to all people; anyone can create something; there are no mistakes; it should be fun and messy and it should be affordable. I learned everything I know in a community studio setting in several states. My approach to pottery and all art is that it should be easily accessible to all people; anyone can create something; there are no mistakes; it should be fun and messy and it should be affordable. I have built my business around those ideals. I currently have 4 wheels and 3 kilns in an outbuilding on our property. When time allows, I offer projects and classes. I take clay to schools and groups. I participate and promote events that inspire creativity.
Inspired from a children’s book, SERENDIPITY, is a propensity for making fortuitous discoveries while looking for something unrelated,. There is something magic in finding what you were not looking for. When you look at my hand crafted pieces, I hope you find a happy discovery ~ something that makes you happy or inspires greatness.
I like to hear from you. If you have questions, comments or want to share a photo of my work in your home, please do so! If you would like to invite me to your event, please leave as many details as possible. I do not have shop hours, appointments/pre-arranged times are available.

I am an amazing wife and mom. I am a small batch potter with a fun studio in Oklahoma. When time allows, I schedule classes in my studio around our busy family. My studio is a casual, dirty place full of life. Creative energy inspires everyone I hope!
